The above line provides us with the immediate context that precedes what we know as the Lord’s prayer. A great technique for instilling into us the discipline and technique of prayer is to analyse the Lord’s prayer and rewrite it in our own language.

The lemon tree
In my backyard stands a lemon tree. It was planted by my parents when they moved into our family home, shortly before I was born. It is therefore, sometimes jokingly referred to as my older brother! Over the years the tree has grown from sapling into the majestic soaring fruit-bearer it is today, some 35+ years later.

Happy New Year to you all. The inspiration for this article was a question posed on Quora. For those of you who are not familiar, Quora is a question-and-answer website where all kinds of questions are asked, answered, edited and organised by the community of users. The particular question on Quora which caught my attention was: If you found out you were the direct descendant of a king or queen, would that boost your self-esteem or have no effect on you at all?

Growing up: reflections of childhood
The following is an adaptation of a short story written for my Year 12 assessment. Whilst a work of fiction, it is based on real events in my life. The world isn’t always fair. Sometimes our perspective of issues is clouded by different contexts, and invariably, two wrongs never make something right.

Build my life
One of the ways I like to focus my writing is to analyse the lyrics of a song; typically a worship song. I find this a good discipline that complements my service in my church’s worship ministry. I think, in the early days, this technique was taught to me as a way to go deeper with songs in the worship of our God.
