Phil Hall

Press Service International

Phillip Hall has been too long in Melbourne to see AFL in the same light as those back in Fremantle. East Fremantle born and bred, he would love to see the Dockers back in the eight. But would settle for just beating West Coast twice a year.

  • Lack Of Public Transport Saved Melbourne’s East

My first experience of Melbourne was the inner east. Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell. Box Hill was out there. Nunawading was another universe away. Being in inner city Melbourne or as I call it Melbourne Proper meant Trams and Trains.

  • AFL Finals Review: Raining Dogs and Cats

So here we are. Four teams left. Three games to go till season 2021 is over. It is amazing that they have been able to get the season in at all. Games have been played everywhere. Players and their families have been carted all over the country.

  • Origins of an Action Theologian

There was a flurry of messages from a friend of mine recently. I had just recorded the audio for my first youtube video on my new channel. Foolishly I had described it as a podcast and posted a few pics of my new recording kit on instagram. I was making progress. Slow progress. But progress nonetheless

  • AFL Finals: All aboard for the Dee-train

AFL Finals are upon us and while they may not be in Melbourne or Sydney they are still on. Unlike New South Wales and Victorian country and suburban football. Some leagues have plans to play sometime in September, others have named their Premiers already.

  • A Freo Fans Anxiety

I began writing this article on Sunday afternoon before the final two games of AFL round 21. It serves as a time capsule of hope. Also one of frustration, angst, anger and regret. I have not changed what was written.

  • Out of Frustration: What does it mean?

‘What does it mean’ is an illustration I drew many years ago. It is shows a guy in a gallery looking at a painting or photo that depicts the horror of war. His response “What does it mean?”.

  • If you can laugh you’ve had a good day.

When I tell people I play cricket in winter they always assume I mean indoor cricket. No I tell them. Outdoors. A series of queries follows. In the rain? What kind of ball do you use? Are you crazy? The answers being, yes, its a special leather ball, and of course I am.

  • The Cycle of Dr. Who

Recently I have realised something about Dr. Who. No, its not the ‘lonely god theory’. Neither is it that recent Dr. Who is lacking, a lot. But, like Batman in the comics, Dr. Who is caught in a loop.

  • Jack Kirby Drew God

Jack Kirby is well deserving of the title “The King”. To say Kirby drew comic books is like saying that Michelangelo could paint a bit. Jack Kirby is the creator and co-creator of Marvel and DC characters that are now everywhere.

  • Euro 2021 Final Review

How do you describe the horror of a final like the one that just occurred? Turbulent? Riotous? Shemozzle? While I cannot deny the result, there were two moments when this England team made me believe. And then I fell into the same self torturous trap that all English fans fall for.
