Pope Francis has revealed the three words essential for a successful marriage as "permission, thanks, and forgiveness."
In his speech at Krakow, Poland from the balcony on Thursday, he focused on married couples, sharing that whenever he sees a young couple getting married he tells them they have courage, because it's not an easy step to make the lifetime commitment of forming a family.
"Sometimes they ask me how to make it so that the family always goes forward and overcomes difficulties, I suggest to them to practice three words," the pontiff said, then going on to give the three words "permission, thanks, and forgiveness."
"These words can help to live married life because in married life there are difficulties."
Pope Francis is in Krakow amid celebrations of World Youth Day 2016 where young faithfuls from across the globe are gathered.
For "permission" he suggested to always ask your spouse, "what do you think?" rather than just "running over" the other without getting their opinion.
"It's the spouses who confer the sacrament of marriage, one to the other. And this sacramental relationship is maintained with this sentiment of gratitude, of thanks," he said for "thanks".
And regarding "forgiveness", Francis said, "In marriage, mistakes are always made and that the important thing is to know how recognize one's mistakes and ask for forgiveness."
