Have you ever been fascinated by fizzy drinks (more popularly known as soft drinks or soda)? Like, how do they get it “fizzy”?
I know food chemists would probably get into the scientific terms and processes to explain that fizzy drinks consist of more than carbonated water. Well, whatever it is, it works.
And for decades, it has been working for large beverage companies such as Coca Cola and Pepsi who have not only manufactured these drinks but have earned billions of dollars from ‘the fizz’.
‘The fizz effect’
As I continued to think about ‘the fizz’, I can remember two distinct times in my life that I identified ‘the fizz’ effect.
The first and most recent time was on a regular weekday. In about 2020. A youth leader, who has an app that gives a word of the day, came up to me in passing and said, “my word of the day today was ‘effervescence’ and while I thought of putting it in a sentence, I immediately thought of you”.
Was I flattered? I said “thanks”as I pondered on the context meaning my youth leader shared.
You may be wondering, what is effervescence?
According to the Collins dictionary, effervescent means give off gas bubbles; bubbling up; foaming; lively and high-spirited; vivacious.
I got it.
This is how my youth leader saw me. Lively and high-spirited; vivacious.
Me.
This brought me to the second time. About eight years prior to the first, during undergrad when I was in Christian leadership.
I never thought I could be taken seriously when speaking about God because of my bubbly personality.
Then, I thought I had too much fizz.
Until the still small voice of the Lord arrested my self-doubt and confirmed why I had to be the way I was. I was created this way.
God has been using what I had, the thing I barely could identify for myself, to be of greater purpose for His glory.
I was effervescent. I had the fizz.
Now, by the grace of God, I am able to impact lives because of God’s effervescence. One day, I am sure I will reach billions like Coca- Cola and Pepsi with this ‘God manufactured’ fizz.
Are you having self doubt about your purpose? Are you asking the questions, ‘what do I have to offer’ or ‘what do I bring to the table’?
God has an uncanny way of answering those questions.
Just continue doing you.
What are you doing now? How do you relate to persons? How do you perceive or respond to situations?
Whatever the answers to these are, continue doing.
I want to encourage you to let Matthew chapter 5 verse 16 assure you that God can use you, all of you, for His intended glory here on earth:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
In the end, your interactions will add that fizz, that value to life.
