An enthralling final day of the season took place on Sunday night as all matches kicked off at 3pm as per tradition on the final day of the season.
The lucrative Champions League places were still up in the air with Man City & Man United already tying up top 2 – the final day saw Leicester, Chelsea & Liverpool all needing positive outcomes to ensure top 4 finishes.
Chelsea didn’t start well- loosing 2-1 at Aston Villa- although were in a very tricky position with injuries & the small matter of a Champions League final next week. Liverpool comfortably beat Crystal Palace at home to give Liverpool 3rd position which was a sad ending for Palace Boss Roy Hodgson after an amazing career.
Leicester’s Chance
Therefore, it came down to Leicester City at home to Spurs who themselves for fighting for a European place in 7th position. The game went both ways with Vardy scoring a brace from the spot.
Leicester were ahead all match until the 70th minute when Spurs came to life. Gareth Bale was the hero scoring a brace & sending Spurs into Europa League football with Leicester City as Chelsea gained 4th place.
The result was tough to take for Leicester as Rogers had an inspired year winning the FA Cup & finishing 5th surpassed expectation.
Hammers and Geordies
West Ham United finished off a fantastic season with a comprehensive 3-0 home win against Southampton to finish in 6th place & send them into the Europa league. Arsenal missed out on a place in Europe although finished the season in style with a 2-0 win at home to Brighton.
Newcastle also found form late & won 2-0 away at Fulham in London whilst Leeds finished a fantastic first premier league campaign in 17 years with a 3-1 win to relegated West Bromich-Albion.
Sheffield Out, Norwich and Watford Promoted
Sheffield United also farewelled the Premier league with a 1-0 win at home to Burnley whilst the Champions Manchester City celebrated their league win – thumping Everton 5-0 at home to give the fans a celebratory feeling on the final day of the season.
Norwich City & Watford are the promoted teams to join the premier league whilst Swansea & Brentford will play off next weekend to decide the final team.
Chelsea & Manchester City will fight out the greatest honour next weekend in the Champions League final which has been moved to Portugal.
