The target of 1000 children being sponsored on Compassion Day has been exceeded, said an excited Vision Radio Network.
Compassion Day, on May 17th has been a remarkable day where more than 1200 children had been "released from poverty in Jesus name," states Vision Radio on its website. 1295 children had been sponsored as a result of Compassion Day 2007.
Vision had set a goal of raising 10% of the national total (100 children sponsored) and it was achieved very early. After 6 pm Eastern Standard Time the radio tripled the number and continued to track above 10% of the national total to end with a very "credible" result of 140 children sponsored on the day.
In the Salvation Army Warcry publication, Sheridan Voysey, a presenter of talkback program Open House said that last year Compassion Day 2006 had sponsored 943 kids with the goal of 1,000 being set this year.
Voysey also the national coordinator/creative of Compassion Day said that this year appeal was focused on raising sponsors for needy children in Indonesia and the Philippines, reported Warcry.
