The 21st Pro Am Surfing contest at Cronulla in Sydney last weekend saw two days where the Christian Surfers Australia team began an outreach event, seeing 108 elite male and female surfers of whom most were non Christians participate and hear the message of Jesus Christ.
The event run over both Saturday and Sunday last week was blessed with good weather and great waves despite the Friday forecast showing unpromising wave action.
That day saw many talented surfers competing for the great prize pool worth over $10,000
Besides the surfing competitions the main focus of the event was proclaiming the identity of Jesus Christ to all the competitors. One of the methods to do this was with the Win-a-Line Up Surfboard competition. With the guidance of an Evangelism Team member the entrants had to answer several questions pertaining to who Jesus was by referring to the important bible verses from the Surfer’s Bible.
Many participated in this event and as a result were able to hear the news about Jesus Christ.
Again in 2005 the success exceeded their expectations, and one of the main factors contributing to that achievement were from the amazing hospitality offered by the catering Team, who served up a multitude of cakes, slices, cookies and muffins all donated by members of local churches; along with the many bacon and egg rolls, sausage sandwiches, fruit and cups of coffee.
Following the conclusion of the event, Christian Surfers' leader Darryn Harvey gave a presentation to the large crowd that attended about who Jesus was and the significance of what he had done for us.
He told the crowd that Jesus, by dying on the Cross, has paid for our salvation and that this gift is free for all people who turn their lives to Christ.
The Pro Am reachout Team petition everyone to continue to support them with many prayers for those who heard the message about Jesus Christ and that they will continue to seek him as their savior.
