Such Australians will be joined by renowned journalist and host of Compass, Geraldine Doogue, who will make the pilgrimage to the Holy Land for her first time as she seeks to renew her faith.
Filmmakers Yarra Bank Films will document the program "The Way of the Cross", which will follow Doogue and the tens of thousands of pilgrims from around the world as they undertake the spiritual quest walking the Via Dolorosa - the path Jesus walked as the carried the cross to his crucifixion.
Doogue began to doubt her faith amidst the recent revelations of sexual abuse cases within the Catholic Church, leading to a deep personal need to reconnect to what she believes is the essence of her faith.
Her journey will give the show's audience the opportunity to know more about what attracts her personally to her faith and also the story behind why she is undertaking this quest.
Compass explores the interface between religion and life as experienced by individuals and communities - including ordinary Australians, public leaders, religious thinkers, ethicists and philosophers. The program airs on ABC1 on Sundays at 6:30pm AEST.
