Organisers of the National Day of Prayer and Fasting have called on Christians and churches to devote seven days, from August 28 to September 3, to pray and fast in response to the 'desperate' situations in Australia and the Middle East.
The group of Christian leaders and pastors presented a 4 point prayer plan for the event:
• Pray for an explosion of the Gospel and a sovereign outpouring of the Holy Spirit, with an accompanying revival in the Church to bring transformation to our nation. Only a healed and unified Church can bring healing to a broken and divided community and nation.
• Pray for the Christians in Iraq, Syria and the Middle East who are facing severe persecution for their faith. Pray for angelic protection and for the nations of the world to come to their aid.
• Pray for protection of the definition of marriage between a man and a woman. Sexual radicals are campaigning for the Coalition government to abandon its election commitment to marriage. Protecting and supporting marriage and the natural family is the best way to protect our children. The issue of the redefinition of marriage, after the issue of abortion and the killing of the innocents, is the biggest social justice issue of our time.
• Pray God will raise up men and women with the spirit of Elijah "to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers". Pray that this Father's Day, 7 September 2014, we will see a revolution and restoration of fatherhood in Australia.
