Things are going to be shaken up a little in Canberra during the October long weekend (2-5 October). The team behind Black Stump is hosting an event where people from all backgrounds can work together for justice. The main points of interest during the festival will be indigenous justice, refugee issues and global poverty.
People are invited no matter if they're of Christian faith, another faith or no faith and it will create a great space where the followers of Jesus will be able to explain the story of God's heart in a market place environment.
A host of entertainment and speakers
Katie Noonan, Archie Roach and Lior were on board after hearing about the event. And thinkers such as Tim Costello, Melinda Tankard-Reist and Jeff McMullen soon followed. There will be a variety of people there bringing together this market place of ideas and stepping out to achieve real solutions to real world problems.
"It's about going beyond. It's about standing with one another, from every culture. In a word, it's about justice." says Andrew, the Beyond festival director in explaining the concept.
Pip, a Beyond festival supporter says: "This festival is not just about entertainment, it is about being trained and equipped to make a genuine and deep difference in your community. We will have the best teachers, thinkers, trainers, practitioners and mobilisers in this country."
From the full weekend, to single days
With that impressive bill, the Beyond festival is sure to make an impact this October, and tickets start at $69. Kids under 12 are free. There are options to stay onsite either camping or in ensuited rooms, or instead of staying for the full long weekend the option is to only attend the day of your choosing.
