Tim Newman of Christchurch won the 2016 The Tony Dunkerley Sport Writer Award at the Press Service International (PSI) young writers conference in Sydney on the weekend, while Andrew Sinclair the Basil Sellers International young writers award.
The Press Service International program sees a wide range of young writer's articles published in 'Christian Today' - part of CMCI – Christian Media Corporation International, the largest Christian news provider around the world.

Tony Dunkerley Award
The late Tony Dunkerley passed to Glory in December 2014. Since 1984 he and Dr Mark Tronson the Australian cricket team chaplain (17 years to 2001) teamed up and developed Country Town Tours with elite athletes and coaches to rural Australia as role models. Tony Dunkerley went on many such CTT's.
Tony Dunkerley was the Commissioner for Football (Soccer) for Youth over many years, the President of the Victorian Football Association and had coached many junior and Under 21 Victorian football teams.
He attended several young writers conferences in Australia and New Zealand where he addressed the young writers on potential, mentoring and goals. Tony Dunkerley was an inspiration to all those who heard him speak, and his input into young men's lives (in particular) remains paramount in their development.
The Young Writers are delighted they can honour his name and ministry to them with the annual Tony Dunkerley Sport Award.

Basil Sellers International Award - 2nd year
There are seventeen international young writers from across the world whose articles are listed in Week 1 of the 5 week Cycle in the Press Service International writer program. Last year it was a joint award, Paul Lewis (West Indies) and Genevieve Wilson (Canada).
Andrew Sinclair from Christchurch is studying theology at SMBC in Sydney and he was housed in the international's Week 1 as he was outside New Zealand.

Dr Mark Tronson is a Baptist minister (retired) who served as the Australian cricket team chaplain for 17 years (2000 ret) and established Life After Cricket in 2001. He was recognised by the Olympic Ministry Medal in 2009 presented by Carl Lewis Olympian of the Century. He mentors young writers and has written 24 books, and enjoys writing. He is married to Delma, with four adult children and grand-children.
