Martin Scorsese's directed 2006 crime drama movie 'The Departed' will be developed as a TV series reboot by Amazon, who is now in charge of the series development after it first took the Jack Ryan television series under its wings.
It will be produced by Amazon Studios as well as Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment, the same who produced the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer movie along with Warner Bros TV.
The series will be penned by Jason Richman, whose work includes Detroit 1-8-7. The Departed series will remodelon the two-way-undercover concept in the Scorsese movie. The story will be set in the present-day Chicago and will feature a young cop, who will infiltrate a Latin gang, while the gang in turn plants a mole in the Chicago Police Department.
The movie made on a $90 million budget was a major hit, earning $290 million. So, it is a major challenge for the makers to recreate the success of the film into the series.
The cast of the series is not known as of now. It is the second big movie adaption for Amazon Video service as it recently picked Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan starring The Office's John Krasinski.
Jack Ryan is going to be a ten-episode series, telling the story of a CIA analyst who embarks on a mission to decode a global terrorism plot. The U.S., Europe and Africa are the confirmed shoot locations for the series. It will be available on Amazon Prime.
A premiere date of the series is unknown.
