“You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.” - The Matrix
They grew up in a world that conditioned them to take the blue pill without even thinking. It would be decades before they would reunite and realise just how foolish they had been.
She thought he was too good for her. So not only did she do nothing, but she suffered in silence whenever her friend talked about him. Her friend also liked him.
He thought of her as a friend and had no idea she liked him. He was smitten by her friend though, but like her thought she was too good for him, and thus took no action.
Where do we get this believe from that someone is too good for you or they are out of your league? Sadly, I've heard it just as much in churches as I have in school playgrounds.
It would be years later that he would find out her friend was heartbroken when he came back to school after the holidays in a new relationship. It would be another decade before he found out she had liked him too.
All three people from very different backgrounds, different countries, different cultures, different beliefs yet all intersecting at this one point in time. All three conditioned to believe that they were less than they were created to be. All three making choices based on their feelings that would have lifelong consequences.
Both girls grew to be women, got married and are now mothers. How differently any of their lives could have turned out if their identity more closely resembled who they were created to be. The rest of their stories are theirs to tell and impart what they have learned on the next generation. The only one I can delve into any real depth on is his, because it is mine. I have no prodigy, so I leave my thoughts here for you to dissect.
Questions to consider
Did you grow up believing similar things?
Do you still hear it in your community in 2019?
How different could the next decade be if we all started taking the red pill?
How long would it take for the ripple effect to circumnavigate the globe?
Even if you are the only person to read this don't underestimate the impact you could have. Every hero and every villain throughout history were all just individuals. The only difference is the force that they let govern their life and the identity this gave them.
It's amazing to see in Melbourne now one of the main sports and entertainment arenas sponsored by Marvel. A single franchise all be it a hugely successful one, has made and expects to continue to make enough money to see becoming the naming writes sponsor of an arena a profitable advertising expense.
Looking back on my own childhood I remember not thinking twice about Lois Lane not being able to work out that Clark Kent was also Superman. Now it's like, it's only a pair of glasses how could everyone not tell his secret identity. Yet how many comics would have sold if every character in the story had the confidence of Superman? How many movies and TV episodes would have made it to our screens if Clark acted the same in both roles?
Who we believe we are affects everything we think, say, and do? I wouldn't have written any of these blog posts when I was in school, not only was blogging not a thing but I would have been too conscientious. Now I could tell either of those friends my true thoughts and feelings because my identity isn't dependent on their reply.
Living a fearless life is so liberating it's like I'm living life looking like Clark Kent yet feeling and thinking as boldly as Superman, fearlessly. There is no kryptonite in my life, I don't even fear death it's only the loss of temporal time. How dramatically one’s life can change when only a few years ago I was scared of non-existent things coming out from behind every tree and driveway I went past.
Our minds are a very powerful tool and we have the power to govern their output.
So, I ask you what is your input the blue pill or the red pill?
