The bond between mother and child is rather remarkable. When my babies were born, it changed my whole world. My life was never the same again and for all good reasons. The love a mother has for her children goes above and beyond. When there is a threat to their lives, something rises up within us that seems to give us extraordinary superpowers to step in and defy all odds in order to keep our children safe.
For example, in Florida a mother: rescued her daughter from the jaws of a shark that carried her away while they were surfing. “There’s no way this is going to kill my daughter,” this brave mother thought before taking the shark head on and yanking her daughter away.”
And another: A mother in Massachusetts laid down as a ‘speed bump’ to save her daughters in a rolling car and was unable to walk properly again.
It’s an extraordinary thing
The sacrifices that are made by parents (both mums and dads) for their children may not be something, if asked, you could imagine doing. Yet, in the moment, you don’t think twice.
We can see that same love on a higher scale through the love of Jesus. Jesus, who is God in human skin, paid the ultimate price to protect us from the threat of death and the attack of the enemy. His scars from His death on the cross are precious to Him because our names are etched on His hands. We are always with Him, and He gave everything to prevent us from being snatched away.
Isaiah chapter 49 verses 15-16 says:
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has born? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”
When God sees His children suffering, He is not distant. He is full of compassion and justice. If He sent His Son to die on the cross in order to rise again and banish death forever, then He can also step into whatever situation you are in right now and deliver you from that.
‘Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.’
(1 Peter chapter 5 verses 6-7)
God loves His people, His creation, and He loves our country. He is the God of restoration and in a little while, perhaps sooner than you think, you will see it.
‘Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” (Revelation chapter 21 verse 5)
