An Unexpected Prophesy
On his last visit to Redding, Brian Simmons – the author of the Passion Translation – hosted a conference. The Saturday night I attended, he had me stand up and gave me a prophetic word. "Are you ready for this?" He asked, before shouting, "CHILDREN!" After a moment of laughter, he added, "I guess that means a husband, too!"
At the time, I thought the prophetic word related to having children – and as wonderful as that sounds, I really value my sleep right now and am far from ready for that season. (I also really like having a bed all to myself.)
Little did I know... the prophetic word would come true only a month later, and not in the form I expected.
The Best Job in the World
At the time, I was working in a real estate office. They had a unique system, and it was very hard to catch on. My boss told me that I wasn't aggressive enough – that I was too nice. (Is there anything worse than feeling your best qualities are of no value?) While I highly respected their protocol, I was feeling more and more strained. I would come home from work and not want to see or talk to anyone. I needed a lot of time to decompress. Very quickly, I found myself looking for other work.
And that is how I ended up interviewing at a preschool only five minutes away from my house. As I pulled into their parking lot, I said out loud, "I'm going to get this job!" My spirit was excited. The interview went incredibly well... and they offered me a full-time position on the spot! I accepted.
The reason I accepted was because I actually felt like I could contribute value. They seemed to think that my personality was a perfect fit. Even though I'm making half as much money, I am now coming home with a lot more. How much value can you put on hugs? I get dozens! It is, quite simply, the best job in the world.
Despite having no experience in that field (except for a bachelor's degree in human development) – and there being four other applicants for the position – the doors opened. There is absolutely nothing that can stand in the way of God's purpose. "I know you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted." (Job Chapter 42 Verse 4, NIV)
Now my days are structured around learning games, nap times, and snacks. Instead of making sales, I'm teaching children how to make friends. I've gone from sitting in a desk for hours to being constantly on my feet. Overall, I'm much happier.
God Keeps His Word
So... children! The prophetic word came to pass only weeks later. (And I'm quite relieved it came about in that way! I'm not ready for the pitter-patter of little feet in my home...) God is always faithful, and He never forgets His promises. "God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfil?" (Numbers Chapter 29 Verse 4, NIV)
This isn't the first time a prophetic word has come to pass quickly and unexpectedly. At my home church, a man named Keith Ferrante said to me, "God loves your harp!" But I didn't own a harp, and hadn't played the harp since high school. Two days later, my mother informed me that my grandparents had offered to give me a harp. They had made the decision the weekend – before I received the prophetic word. In other words, God was already arranging for an incredible gift before He revealed His purpose to me.
It excites my spirit to think that He is already laying the foundations for the fulfilment of all His other promises. They may come about in unexpected times and ways. Who doesn't love a surprise? If you are holding onto any promises, I encourage you to trust in the goodness and faithfulness of your Father. He never forgets!
