Matthew Rhys, of The Americans has bagged a mysterious role in the sixth and final season of the HBO comedy-drama Girls.
The Welsh actor called the role in the series as a "total departure" from what he has played earlier, The Hollywood Reporter wrote. The show, penned by Lena Dunham, follows the life of four young girls living in New York City and now will see Rhys as an addition to wrap up.
The 41 year old Emmy-nominated actor could not reveal much about the role, but gave a hint that he is not going to play a Welsh-character.
"I'm doing one episode, and it was such a peachy role, I couldn't turn it down," he says.
"Lena Dunham reached out to ask if I'd do it and I jumped at the chance. It's been quite intimidating working with Lena - I've never met anyone more well-read, whip smart and wise, and who is still a young prodigy", the Brothers and Sisters actor said.
The Americans won best drama series for a second consecutive year at the Television Critics Association Award, in which Rhys plays a Russian spy named Phillip Jennings.
Rhys skipped the event on Saturday because of his commitments to his new role at HBO's telecasted series.
The role comes at a time when Rhys and his partner and co-actor Keri Russell are enjoying some off-time with their son, Sam, born this May.
The new parents will be back to work when The Americans fifth season starts filming in October. The FX show, which started from 2013 and is set to wrap up in six seasons, has been avoided by the award juries but is constantly lauded by critics.
