We’ve all heard the expression ‘Religion & Politics’ don’t mix. And I aver that most people would endorse that statement, as being correct. However I put it to you that it’s a fallacy bequeathed to us from the Enlightenment, in an attempt to push religion out of politics, so that Secularism could become the new political paradigm.
Notwithstanding religion and politics are inseparable. They were in the ancient world, the milieu in which the New Testament was written and remain inseparable today.
In Your Face
With the redefinition of marriage an imminent certainty, the interplay of religion and politics will arise to be in our faces. For a thinking Christian there’ll be no escape. As surely as night follows day, we’re going to be confronted with a clash between our God given value system and Neo-Marxism, and it could get ugly. And it won’t just be ministers of religion in the firing line, it will be ordinary mums and dads as well.
For instance in the UK, USA and Canada all early adopters of SSM, children from 5 yrs of age onward are taught in school, that anal sex between men is normal and healthy. But God’s decree (not opinion) is that human sexuality is singularly and exclusively expressed between a man and a woman, in a voluntary union for life.
‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother (male and female marriage) and cleave to his wife (the inauguration of another male female marriage) and the two shall become one flesh (a family unit has begun).
Moreover God enjoins us as parents to be actively involved in the nurture and raising of our children, who have been entrusted to us. Deuteronomy chapter 6 verses 6-7
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
And also for example Ephesians chapter 6 verses 1-4
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Who owns the Child? You or the State?
It’s incontrovertible that the State school system will be teaching our kids a version of sexuality, which is inimical to the creation mandate given for the weal of all mankind, by our all-knowing God. Now let’s say you ask permission from your local school to remove your kids from these subversive lessons, the stated aim of which is to sexualixe young innocent children, such as happened in Canada, recently.
Then let Steve Tourloukis be a warning to you. He lost his right to protect his son from LGBT indoctrination. The court ruled in favour of the school board. The judge said that he did not have the right to remove his son from these lessons, because it was important that all children are taught about the diverse array of options available to them in relation to human sexuality.
It won’t stop here, children will also be taught that abortion is right, that their gender is fluid. Bakers will be taken to court for holding to man-woman marriage. Talented employees will be denied job pathway promotions for not supporting SSM. The list of flashpoints is nearly endless.
What does the Bible Say?
Here’s where it gets interesting. At face value there is a degree of ambivalence when it comes to a Christian’s responsibility to the State. Some passages in the Bible support obedience to the State, while others encourage conscientious objection. Let’s take a look.
In Romans chapter 13 verses 1-7, Paul exhorts us to pay our taxes, obey the divinely appointed government, in this case the pagan emperor Nero. But historically there’s been a dark side the use (or misuse) of this passage. For instance it was used to justify the National German Church’s support of the Nazi Party, which murdered 6 million innocent Jews. This is not the moment to cite other atrocities which the governments and dictators have committed, where the Church’s opposition should have been mounted, instead obeying their God ordained leaders.
Then we have the passage in Acts 4, where Peter and John are ordered to stop preaching Jesus or else suffer the consequences, to which Peter replied, “You decide, whether it’s right in the sight of God, to obey God or Men?” Peter response was courteous, but in open rebellion against the State.
How do we reconcile these contradictory views? Can they be reconciled? Should we obey our laws even when they are opposed to the laws of God? To find the answer you’ll need to wait for Part 2
