Google's answer to Apple's new iPhone is the Nexus 2016. Rumored release dates for the smartphone range between September and October this year. The device also reportedly features Android 7.0 Nougat, which is the newest version of the Android OS. Consequently, as Yibada reports, another possible day for the big release could be sometime this August, immediately following the launch of Android 7.0.
The device is being built by HTC, and there are supposedly two models that the Nexus 2016 will be available in. Dubbed as the Nexus Marlin or the M1, and the Nexus Sailfish or the S1, the two builds boast of nearly similar high-end specs. According to a write-up on Game & Guide, the Marlin model will sport a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, while the Sailfish will feature a 5 inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
Interestingly, recently revealed leaks suggest that these new smart devices will no longer be embellished with the Nexus branding. As BGR explains, the upcoming smartphones might instead rock the letter G on their rear cases. Both the variants are likely to enjoy 4GB of RAM and host Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820.
As for the camera, the specifications of the 2015 Nexus 6P may probably be carried over, meaning that the new devices will have a 12MP sensor on the back and an 8MP sensor on the front. However, the hardware and software components are reported to be upgraded, thus making the overall camera quality better in the new devices.
A recently leaked photo on Twitter shows what appears to be the smaller of the two much-awaited devices. Since the smartphone in the photo looks quite metallic, rumors suggesting that the Sailfish would sport a plastic body instead of a metallic one have been dismissed. However, with no concrete official announcement, we only have speculations to rely on.
