In a statement that has taken the tech world by storm, Barbara Streisand seemingly gave away the date for the big OS release. But wait, aren't you wondering how the 74-year old actress, filmmaker, singer, and songwriter got tangled up in this completely unrelated tech stuff?
It all began during an interview with NPR radio. Streisand revealed that there was just one thing about Siri, the virtual assistant in Apple's much loved iPhones, that annoyed her. It was the way Siri pronounced her last name. The star explained that letter S in the middle of 'Streisand' was supposed to be pronounced softly, like the 's' in 'sand.' Siri, however, makes more of a 'z' sound when she says the star's name.
And then, the bombshell dropped. Streisand revealed that she personally contacted Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, to complain about what was bothering her. In her own words, this was what transpired, "So what did I do? I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook. And he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name finally with the next update on September 30th."
So is that when the new version of iOS is going to make it to the stands? Reports suggest that the big release may happen earlier than the September 30. Pocket-lint, for instance, reasons that the next smartphone from Apple, the iPhone 7, is supposedly all set for its launch on either the 6th or the 23rd of next month. And this phone will run on iOS 10 preloaded. So isn't that when the next software update will technically happen?
Also, the models that run on older versions of the software are expected to get an update as early as the 14th of next month. So was Streisand wrong about the date? Or did she simply misinterpret and mix up what she was told? Perhaps Cook is planning a late September release. Or maybe it's a new patch, 10.0.1, that would spruce up iOS 10 further.
