Ever wished your smartphone could do just a bit more? Well, a project is set to turn an Android smartphone into a laptop at the mere cost of $99. The wonder is named 'Andronium Superbook' and has till now secured $3 million from 16,000 backers pledging money to support the project on a Kickstarter campaign. Apart from this amazing feature, it has other features worth taking note of.
The 11-inch laptop shell will come with high-definition display and 10 hours of battery life powered by a USB-attached Android smartphone.
Additionally, it will have a track-pad, backlit keys, keyboard, and Type C USB and Micro USB ports. Apart from the Android phones, it will support the device connecting to a Raspberry Pi. And there's some more, it can also function as a second display for a Microsoft's Surface, a Mac, or a PC stick. So people with devices other than android can use it easily too.
The campaign for this ambitious project was started in July and due to its impressive offerings, it became one of the most-funded computer hardware projects in Kickstarter.
So how does one actually turn his/her smartphone into laptop? All one would be needing is a Superbook and an Android smartphone with the Andronium OS app installed. Once they are connected to the laptop shell via USB, all the magic starts. The company will also drop some components which escalates the cost of a laptop.
Customers can expect their Superbooks in January and February next year with the company taking in more Android engineers to expedite the process of shipping.
