Recently I have been reminded on how short this one precious life really is.
In the local community where I live a young boy, who was meant to start year seven, died from a tragic farming accident. This young life cut tragically short makes me feel incredibly humble and causes a greater sense of reflection.
Am I making the most out of my days?
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm chapter 90 verse 12)
Wisdom is what I am seeking.
Not earthly wisdom but wisdom from above. More than ever, I feel there is a greater need for wisdom to help us live successful lives. I really want to make the most of this life God has given me and believe it is wisdom that will help me not to waste my life.
Wisdom to know what decisions to make and what to say yes to and what to say no to.Wisdom to help on each step of life’s journey.
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm chapter 119 verse 105)
One way to access God’s wisdom is through reading his word. It literally says it will light the way I should I go!
Taking stock of Time
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.” (Ephesians chapter five verse 15)
One area to practically apply God’s wisdom to is how we use our time.
I’m currently asking myself how well am I using my time? Am I seeking God first in my life? And am I making time to do what I feel God has called me to do?
Time wasters
Along with the usual suspects of wasting time scrolling on the phone, or watching tv which we all know are time wasters, what are some other things we tend to do that in the end are a waste of time?
I believe from God’s perspective worrying is a waste of time and energy; fear of man and fear of failure are as well. It can be hard not to do these things but from my experience prayer is the greatest remedy to this.
Running the race to win
“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…” (Hebrews chapter 12 verses 1 and 2)
If we allow ourselves to get distracted by the many distractions we are bombarded with, it will be impossible to finish the race and finish strongly. If we are focusing on either the cheers or jeers of the crowd too much, we will give out our precious energy to the wrong things, but rather we need to fix our eyes on Jesus.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians chapter 3 verse 2)
It is all well and good to have goals and aspirations, but are they the right goals and aspirations? I know I have needed to have a heart check before and make sure I am running the race Jesus wants me to run.
I pray we all gain a fresh revelation on how precious this one life on earth is. I pray we make the most of our days, living for Jesus, loving him, and loving others.
