Milo is back.
After appearing to be rather quiet for some time he has re-emerged in public life with a fresh perspective.
Few figures have stirred up more controversy over the last 5 or 6 years than Milo Yiannopoulos. At a time when politically correct 'woke' culture was getting louder and more visceral in many establishment institutions Milo increasingly gained popularity as a counter-cultural rebel defying the dominant leftist ideology.
As an intelligent and talented conservative provocateur he could stir up the left like no one else could. This is partly because he had the wit and sharp mind to quickly tear apart weak arguments in a way that is amusing and persuasive but also because he didn't fit the usual stereotype of a conservative activist. Milo was a flamboyant homosexual who lived a hedonistic lifestyle and yet was politically right-wing.
For a few years Milo was one of the most vocal and well known figures in a growing conservative counter-culture that rose up alongside the emergence of Donald Trump on the political scene.
While the conservative counter-culture enjoyed great success for a number years, in the last few years it has been hit hard by the forces of social media censorship. The dominant social media platforms have come down hard on conservatives, showing a clear bias towards the political left. Milo was one of the first people to experience the brunt of this. Eventually he was kicked off most of the major platforms and his influential voice was marginalised for some time.
Milo's transformation
Never one to shy away from controversy Milo has now recently started doing news interviews again and announced to the world that he has said goodbye to his previous homosexual lifestyle. He is now practicing a celebate lifestyle and has broken off what he now regards as a fake marriage to a male partner.
When I saw Milo speak in Adelaide at the end of 2017 I wrote an article then talking about how Milo was a walking contradiction. A man who was simultaneously an outspoken Catholic conservative but also a very open homosexual. But it appears that he has now bridged that gap between his professed beliefs and his way of life, taking his faith much more seriously and embracing a more moral lifestyle.
It is easy to be sceptical about Milo's change knowing his history of being a troll, but having watched a number of interviews he has done recently I am convinced he is genuine and God is doing a deeper work in his life. Many people were praying for Milo and it appears that those prayers have been answered.
A timely leader in a heavily indoctrinated culture
It has been very refreshing to see the change in Milo Yiannopoulos. In a culture where criticising homosexuality is now taboo and politically incorrect it is encouraging to see a guy like Milo consistently embrace his Christian faith and pushing back against the LGBT worldview when so many are afraid to.
While Milo has always taken aim at the progressive LGBT ideology criticizing it's inflence in society he is now taking it to a whole new level speaking directly about the sinfulness of homosexuality and helping people who want to get out of the gay lifestyle.
One thing that I have always admired about Milo is that he holds his convictions firm, speaks his mind and doesn't care what anyone thinks about it. In an age when the progressive LGBT movement is shoving its ideology down our throats and trying to silence and shame those who disagree, men with a backbone like Milo are needed.
Why are we so grey on this subject?
And why can't we just speak plainly about homosexuality like Milo does? It seems that Christians have become so grey on this particular subject. There is nothing grey about what the Bible says about it though. It says that is it an abomination and uses this particular sin as a prominent example of a society that has rejected God and His plainly revealed truth.
God created man and woman to come together in a committed union in which healthy children can be raised. This is wholesome, good and beautiful and homosexuality is a perversion of this.
Why are Christians often grey on this subject? The usual reason put forth is compassion or empathy for a marginalised group. But each of us has to honestly ask ourselves is that really the reason or is it because we are cowardly and don't want to experience the discomfort of negative social pressure? Are we truly seeking to submit to the convicting voice of the Holy Spirit on this issue?
We should have compassion on homosexuals as much as anyone else. We are called to love all people and there is no place for hate as God's people. But the left-wing LGBT ideology is a cultural stronghold that should be resisted not accomodated. We are called to tear down strongholds and deceptive lies that the enemy is attempting to capture us with and make us a slave to.
Thank God for people like Milo who are doing just that.
