In a celebrated mass at the Domus Sanctæ Marthæ last Tuesday, December 9, the Pontiff spoke about "The joy of the Church" and cited similarities between the role of the Church and that of a shepherd.
The Holy Father took inspiration for his first reading passages from the Book of Isaiah when he spoke of the end of Israel's tribulation.
The Pope related stories about the people's need for consolation and that "The Lord's very presence is comforting". He told the worshippers that "the strongest consolation is that of mercy and forgiveness".
He highlighted his sermon by reading from the last part of Ezekiel's Chapter 16 and told believers of the Christian faith that God is a forgiving God and that he will never abandon those who believe in him and even those who have a list of "many sins".
Pope Francis ended his Holy Sermon by reiterating that the real joy of the Church is to look for his lost sheep and upon finding that lost member of the herd, the Church would find joy. He added that the Christian faith is an example of Jesus' tenderness and forgiveness is an expected virtue.
