The Godfather of Shock Rock Alice Cooper made interesting statements in an interview, stating his horror vaudeville performances were not demonic in nature and that it is his job to warn the public about Satan.
"The only thing I did deny, though, being a nice Christian boy, I said, 'There's nothing Satanic about our show. I grew up in a Christian home. I don't care if you don't like what we do. I don't care if you think it's stupid. And I don't care if you think it's inappropriate. It's definitely inappropriate. But it's certainly not Satanic," the "beloved heavy metal entertainer", as per The Rolling Stone Album Guide's label for Cooper, told DC Beacon.
The 66-year-old successful musician grew up with a Christian minister father but did not practice Christianity before he reached his thirties. Due to problems from alcoholism, the Michigan native accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He claimed he was afraid of ending up in hell.
He revealed more about his personal spiritual journey: "It's really easy to focus on Alice Cooper and not on Christ. I'm a rock singer. I'm nothing more than that. I'm not a philosopher. I consider myself low on the totem pole of knowledgeable Christians. So, don't look for answers from me... I was one thing at one time, and I'm something new. I'm a new creature now. Don't judge Alice by what he used to be. Praise God for what I am now."
In other parts of the interview, the popular American performer stated the public should take Satan more seriously.
"Be careful! Satan is not a myth. Don't sit around pretending like Satan is just a joke."
He added, "I think my job is to warn about Satan."
