Due to some historical and personal reasons, Taipei is a city where I have been longing to travel. A ten-day holiday in Taipei was finally arranged this February.
People of Taipei
Needless to say, the famous scenic attractions are must-see when travelling in the dream city.
I was surprised that almost every cultural attraction and museum offers free explanation tour, which includes several languages, such as English, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean and two major local dialects. Multiple language options make the travel easier and fun for visitors all over the world.
In addition, the guides are hospitable and patient. Their professional and vivid explanations will easily attract your attention and you’re always want to hear more from them.
People in Taipei are friendly and relaxing. It seems that they enjoy their lives and there is nothing much to worry about. I met people who ran a small store selling traditional carambola tea for forty years, a stranger who insisted on taking me to a destination even though he was going to the other direction, as well as people who smiled to me firstly when I tried to make a conversation with them.
The whole ambiance makes me comfortable and welcomed. I feel like that I’ve been staying in this city for many years.
Church service in Taipei
I went to Taipei Truth Church on Sunday. The church service in Taipei was remarkable! The church is as grand as a concert hall; people are friendly and approachable; the preaching was enlightening and powerful. I couldn’t thank God more for this lovely arrangement!
It’s common that people want to be healthy, rich and successful when praying. Seldom will people ask for wisdom from God like Solomon did. The pastor’s preaching provided me with a new standpoint of pray!
The pastor set Solomon’s story as an example to illustrate the importance of praying for a discerning heart from God.
A discerning heart is mainly about the ability of distinguish from right and wrong, the insight to make right judgments and the willingness to serve others with wisdom.
The church service was more than marvelous! Not only I learned to pray for a disconcerting heart but also developed the habit of reading the Bible and praying at least ten minutes every day.
Volunteer in Taipei
I served in Dada English training school as a volunteer for the last three days of the travel.
My work at the school was to help kids understand English customs by involving them with English conversations, telling English stories and correcting pronunciations.
“It’s very nice of you to do such voluntary work in Taipei!” said my friend Justus.
“It is me who learned at the school.” I replied. I’m the one who was given much by the moment I decided to volunteer.
Kids are the best teachers. They are curious about new things, quick to learn and ready for questions. Their worlds are simple and sincere.
Kids are mentors who tell me to enjoy what I do, master just being themselves rather than caring too much about others’ judgments; role models whose yes is yes, no is no.
It’s wonderful to learn and play with the kids at the school. I just feel myself a lot younger than before.
Farewell, Taipei!
The trip in Taipei was full of joy and memories! There are a plenty of fun spots that I haven’t been to. Taipei is definitely a place where worth visiting again. I believe that I must come back someday in the future.
Farewell for now, Taipei!
