Drew Goddard, the executive producer of the Marvel/Netflix 'The Defenders', has revealed that the crossover series will be unique and have a genre of its own.
The vigilante team will include Netflix newcomer Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Jessica Jones to fight crimes in New York City.
Since Marvel/Netflix shows always work to establish their own tone, it is apparently clear that they plan to do the same with the strong individual characters of 'The Defenders'.
"Yeah. I'm a comic guy, so I always like the idea that you have everyone's individual run. You have the Daredevil comic; the Alias comic, the Jessica Jones comic... But then you have a summer arc, a team up, and that's its own thing also. What's been really fun is to see each show take on its own personality. Luke and Iron Fist haven't launched yet but they're very different," Goddard said.
"They're not the same as Daredevil. They're not the same as Jessica Jones. What's really fun about it is taking all four different genres and putting them together sort of inherently creates its own genre."
'The Defenders' and 'Iron Fist' are both set to premiere sometime in 2017. Before that fans can catch Marvel's Luke Cage which will debut on September 30 on Netflix.
The Academy Award nominated writer of 'The Martian' was originally appointed to helm Marvel's Daredevil but now will return as an executive producer of the Defenders series.
