Think about these for a moment: ‘Have we ever had any dreams in the past, or have we ever been jealous of someone? Did we fulfil our past dreams, or are we currently fulfilling our dreams?’
Most of us have had dreams; indeed, I had several.
I am not sure about most of them, but I remember I wanted to be a gamer since I loved one of the popular Korean war—strategy games, StarCraft, so much.
According to Game Tutorials, Professional StarCraft II players probably win between $100,000 and $300,000 in US Dollars. There will be an additional salary from teams and sponsors on top of this, likely an average of $25,000. The average streamer even earns $2000 - $4000 in US Dollars a month.
When I was young, my priority was to enjoy myself as much as possible. I guess I thought money would eventually come through playing StarCraft.
If we want to be professional StarCraft players, both our hands need to be very fast. As I cannot control my left hand properly and only can use my right hand, I probably could have won less money than professional players if there were level-range tournaments.
God’s will for my life
However, the Sovereign and Creator God led me in a different direction, becoming a Christian writer to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. While being a Christian writer, I write my testimonies of God’s work in my life and share them through a text-to-speech application on my iPad.
Being a Christian writer has been challenging in terms of managing time to write. However, since I feel that being a Christian writer has been God’s life calling for me, I could not have given it up due to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Of course, I do not always feel the Holy Spirit’s leading, but I believe God’s life callings have to be consistent.
Although God’s callings for individuals may change, it is not up to us to discern whether to do our callings temporarily or consistently. Instead, it is up to the Spirit’s leading for individuals.
The cost
Remember, there is the cost of being a disciple of Jesus.
Jesus warns us that the cost of being a disciple of Jesus is that we have to follow Him consistently and persistently, even if it happens to be on a challenging road (Luke chapter 14, verses 25-35).
Although following and being a disciple of Jesus often is challenging, magnificent blessings come with it, such as being God’s children and eternal life through faith in Christ (Ephesians chapter 1, verses 3-14).
The eternal life in Christ is available for those willing to believe in and follow Him because Jesus paid the death penalty for human beings by sacrificing Himself on the cross (Isaiah chapter 53, verses 1-6; 2 Corinthians chapter 5, verse 21).
At the same time, God’s presence also is available to believers, as Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross tore the curtain temple. Therefore, we can directly communicate with God and rely on Him during challenging times (Hebrews chapter 9, verses 1-26).
As human beings have been created to bear God’s image in everything they do, and they find that God loves them tremendously while getting to know Him through faith in Christ, He freely calls them His children if they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour (John chapter 1, verses 12-13).
Following the Holy Spirit’s leading and God’s life callings seems challenging (Matthew chapter 7, verses 13-14). However, we do not have to earn our way to get into God’s kingdom because Christianity is based on an individual’s faith in Christ (Ephesians 2, verses 8-10).
Since God is pleased in everything we do, if we follow where faith in Christ directs us, we do not have to please Him by doing good works. But, of course, God is pleased when we do good work, but only these were out of good faith (Hebrews chapter 11, verse 6).
Although we have to focus on pleasing God rather than people, pleasing God will eventually lead to pleasing them as well, as we are influencing others on the more prominent and magnificent things than us—God’s Kingdom.
Therefore, building our lives in Christ is the true foundation and freedom!
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.
When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.” (Luke chapter 6, verses 46-49)
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let ourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians chapter 5, verse 1)
