Recent reports point to two planned films that would portray a kind of Jesus Christ that is different from what a traditional Christian believes in.
According to a report by The Guardian, two notable film makers are currently planning to release two separate films that may not be received well by most Christian groups.
David Heyman, a british producer, is reportedly planning to use Reza Aslan's book in his new film. Aslan's book, entitled, "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth" talks about Christ as a member of a popular rebel group against the Romans during that time.
Meanwhile, Paul Verhoeven, who worked on films such as Basic Instinct and Showgirls, will reportedly launch his own film about Christ, based on his own book entitled "Jesus of Nazareth", which he has been working for five years already.
In Verhoeven's work, reports say that the portrayal of Jesus Christ will not be as a miracle worker, but a 'persuasive advocate of a new ethics'.
Aside from the two planned films, there are also two planned television series about Jesus Christ - Killing Jesus by multi-awarded British director Ridley Scott, and Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt from producer Enzo Sisti who worked with Mel Gibson to bring us the controversial Passion of the Christ.
Interestingly, more films about the Bible, particularly the Old Testament are currently in the works. One of which is about Kind David, where the giant named Goliath will be played by Canada's tallest man at 7 feet and 8 inches. Other rumored titles are about Joseph the Dreamer and Mary, the mother of Jesus.
