Rumours are surfacing about the possibility of a season 3 of Wayward Pines, the mystery, science fiction TV series.
Fox Television Group co-chairman and CEO, Dana Walden, escalated hopes while attending the Television Critics Association, saying that she definitely believes there could be a Season 3.
The series, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, followed the story of Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), a U.S. Secret Service agent investigating the disappearance of two federal agents in the mysterious small town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, in Season 1. Jason Patric and Djimon Hounsou took over the next season.
The show caught viewer's attention with its script on the first season premiered on Fox on May 14, 2015, but saw ratings drop the following season.
Based on the novels by Black Crouch, the last season averaged 2.4 million total viewers in comparison to 3.8 million of viewership in the debut season.
Walden, while referring to the series as the "number one scripted show of the summer" said, "It's hard when you have to reinvent a series each season."
"They have a really compelling idea for season three that I liked very much. We're definitely talking about the show right now," she added while commenting on the season 3 storyline by creator Chad Hodge and director Night.
She also revealed that some of the previous characters would be back in the upcoming season if a third season is confirmed.
