A few days ago, I had the awesome experience of going to a gospel concert. The last time I went to a concert was December 2019. There is something glorious about being in the same room with people who believe the same thing you do or enjoy the same things you enjoy.
So, when I decided to go to this concert, I was a little nervous because I was going alone. Whenever I told others about this gospel concert, not many people knew of the group performing; I thought they were pretty popular.
However, when I got to the arena and saw the crowd and saw others who were just as excited as I was, I was reminded that I am not alone.
At one point during the concert, while the lights were off, we were instructed to put our phone lights on, and the room just lit up. In that moment, I felt a part of a larger community. I felt a part of something bigger than me.
In a city that is always rushing and focused on self, I found people who believed in Jehovah Jireh; I found people that were willing to say “Yes” to God. It was such a nostalgic feeling that even though I seemed to be living in an unbelieving world – amongst people who have lost their way- here I was surrounded by strangers united to keep Christ alive and to let the world know that God is real.
Lonely Elijah
In 1 Kings 19, we see the prophet Elijah feeling alone in a society that had turned their backs on God.
In 1 Kings 19: 10, Elijah was responding to God after He asked him why he was running and hiding, he said. “…I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”.
Can you relate?Do you ever feel like you are the only one trying to live a righteous life?
Elijah was doing God’s work and was becoming tired because he thought he was the only one still living for God, but he was wrong. Later in verse 18, God told Elijah of the 7000 others who have not worshipped Baal, reminding him that he is not alone.
Never alone
Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are never alone. God always has others who are around us and are willing to spread the gospel with us. Sometimes it may feel like it’s just us and God that we have as support, but best believe that you are not alone.
There are so many people in this world that is on the same mission as you are. There are people whose goal is to spread the gospel and to win souls for the kingdom just like you have been doing.
As the holidays approach, although we may share differing views about the events of the time, let us prioritize showing love to others. Your love may very well be what someone needs in this time.
If you ever feel alone, like Elijah, you can cry out to God and I’m sure he will light up an arena with others who are carrying his light and will stand with you. Even if you feel alone, still shine your light so that others can see it and come to know him.
And also, that others whose lights may be dim will be encouraged when they see your light.
