The sun
Every time I think of the sun coming out, I think of the Bible verse Lamentations chapter 3 verse 23, “They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness”. The sun reminds me that God has new mercies for me every morning. The rays of the sun feel like the rays of mercy. I may not necessarily see it, but I feel it.
I was recently typing out the word sun in the sentence trying to say, "Thank God the sun is out" when the autocorrects spelt “sun” as “sin” instead. This would have read "Thank God the sin is out".
The sin
Whilst I had to manually change the word ‘sun’ on my phone, this put a thought in my head. That sentence “Thank God the sin is out” would also be correct, but perhaps in a different context.
I think sin should not be hidden. It should come out sooner rather than later. Much like the saying, "the truth will always be revealed”.
Why? Because sin eats you up inside, whether you feel like it is or isn't. As humans, I believe we have this innate sense of ‘doing good’. Whilst we are taught not to lie, when one does, it comes with a sense of fear. I cannot see how one can always live in fear.
I believe we were all born sinners – as Romans chapter 3 verse 23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. But if and when we come to God, we confess our sins to him. By confessing, this means that we believe; and therefore we are saved. See Romans chapter 10, verses 9-10, “If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from death, you will be saved. For it is by our faith that we are put right with God; it is by our confession that we are saved.”
Sin is the aspect that separated man and God. This can be traced back to the story of Adam, Eve and the serpent in the book of Genesis. But by confessing our sins, we reconnect ourselves to our Creator. I think all Christians out there should be grateful and “Thank God that the sin is out” because we are now back in relationship with God.
The son
In another scenario, with just one vowel change to an “o”, this would have read "Thank God the son is out". Whilst this does not sound grammatically correct to me, this sentence does carry a lot of significance, as it reminded me of Easter, which is coming up very soon.
The weight of the sentence “Thank God the son is out” reminds me of when Jesus died and then rose again. The son here represents Jesus. Just like the sun coming out, I feel Jesus rising from the dead, is like him “coming out” and revealing himself to the world. The Son of God.
Jesus was out and about. Most of his time he was out with the 'common people'. That is what the Son of God does. I can’t imagine how the story of the Bible would have turned out, had he not risen. This is a deep thought and topic for another day.
The sun, the sin, the son
When I wrote this article, this was not how I thought the title would turn out. A mouthful and a play on vowels of words. But on reflection, I see how a whole vowel can change the meaning of a simple word and when used in different circumstances.
Yet my word association for all three words still leads to one common combined word. God.
